Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired individuals are better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending upon the type of problem being treated. However, you also may be more likely to have an uneven skin tone after the procedure.
The procedure is not recommended for individuals having cut or broken skin, suffering from a skin infection, sunburns or has an active skin disease. If you have the following conditions.
- Pregnant or nursing a baby
- Have eczema, rosacea, psoriasis or dermatitis
- Have taken Accutane in the last few months
- Using skin lightening agents, products that contain ascorbic acid or acid based products
